Bedtime Tales

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

It’s later than thou for me. I’ve had to force myself to stay awake while focusing on the two things that I wanted to complete this evening.

First, the playlists for the two most recent broadcasts of Urban Landscapes are now online on the main page. The playlist will also be listed for the mailing list and other entities in the coming days. For now, check it out for yourself.

Secondly, I’ve had to re-record the most recent show because I’ve accidentally deleted the source file that was recorded on Monday night. That’s now done and edited, and I hope to have it posted by the time you read this. If not, hold tight…it’ll be up in the morning. Announcements will be posted on both the show’s Myspace account and the main web site’s news area. The podcast edition will soon follow.

More on podcast in a moment. But first, just a big shout out to Angelo from the Sound In Color record label. I love seeing small labels getting tremendous exposure within a short time span. It’s all the sweeter when it’s a stateside label, and all the sweeter when one of the main people involved used to live here in SLO. So kudos to the crew! Also must give shouts to Mbela, the new DJ in town that people will keep an eye on. This kid may stump me before I know it! And shouts go to Raymond for looking out for us.

In case you’re wondering, Mbela, Raymond, and I attended the CD listening party for Steve Spacek’s debut solo album on the Sound In Color label. I say it’s the best score since Daz-I-Kue joined. The roster is formidable, and the UK-based Spacek blends in nicely.

It was good to see him perform his tunes, much less appeared before an enthusiastic crowd. It lasted an hour, but it was an hour worth most psople’s time. A shame that I didn’t get to speak to him, but that’s for another time. By the way, “Space Shift,” the new album that was released on SIC last Tuesday, just kills it. Quality through-and-through. It IS future soul, make no mistake about it. Buy it, listen to it, love it.

Now back to the podcast thingie. I’ve visited the office of one of the faculty here at Cal Poly on Tuesday for some personal business. We were on the subject of my show, and I’ve explained to him some of the tech-related portions of what I do….the blog, the show postings, and the podcast, among other things. But he seemed surprised and delighted by what I’ve done, and feels it could help grease the wheel for me to enroll in a special master’s program that I’m shooting for.

Lo and behold, I’ve received an email from him asking me to do a presentation for his class to explain about podcasting from my perspective, and I assume other related points surrounding it. I just hope that I don’t ge too talkative or techincal. I want people to know that it’s just an extension of my love of finding and sharing music with others. Perhaps maybe the class members could teach me a little something, but I’ll find out.

But for now, bedtime!

Is This Blog Dead??

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

Nope, it’s just been extremely dormant and neglected for quite awhile. I’ve been terriblyi busy with this and that.

But I’m going to fix that now. I’d like to update the blog at least twice a week as promised, all the while making things easy on me.

I will post more in the coming days…promise!
