The New Urban Landscapes Website Is Live!

Written by Velanche

vel-pictureThree months of work…damn! But it was worth it.

The Urban Landscapes site finally shifts into its fourth incarnation, simply known as Urban Landscapes Site 4.0.

I’ve more-or-less have been a hands-on sort of guy. The one crutch of having to depend on others both to help create and maintain the previous web site was that when they’ve left for other endeavors, they were no longer around to help fix things, or make them better.

So last spring, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands. I’ve learned more about blogging, photo galleries, plugins, CSS, PHP, spamming, and other wonderfully nerdy business than I’ve ever intended. Out of all of that learning, though, comes what you see today.

Thanks to some great software and a lot of back-and-forth communication to get through heaps of nagging technical issues, I’m very pleased to bring you the new site. As I’ve alluded to earlier, it’s been months in the making. I’ve toyed with lots of ideas and dozens of tools to bring everything together in one location, as opposed to four separate ones (the main website, the podcast site, the site where a mailing list for the podcast is stored, and the seldom-used blog site).

All the work I’ve put into creating the site will not only cut down significantly on my work, but will also allow me to focus on bringing you content that I’ve had to put off due, in large measure, to time constraints. There will be exclusives to supplement the radio show, such as reviews of music and gigs, an ever-growing photo gallery, past exclusive guestmixes, interviews and profiles, and of course news either from me or from the many labels, artists, and sites representing the Urban Landscapes family.

Many of you are receiving this message by email. One of the neatest things that I’ve found that was possible is the ability to post a blog entry, which in turn sends out an automatic email to list subscribers. The issue that can become bothersome is when too many postings in a week can cause some peeps to tune out. I can certainly appreciate that, and will do my best to make the info sent to you worth your while.

There will be at least, on average, about three postings a week. One will come when the playlist is posted with the audio links, another with one, maybe two, news postings of goings on. Still another will be reviews of new and forthcoming music. My charts will go out once a month, as well.

Labels and list subscribers will get both the playlists and the charts automatically upon posting. Most of you that have been on my old lists have already been transferred to the new system. Remember that each playlist will include the podcasts and download links. All the other content, including news and reviews, are separate. If you’d like to subscribe to receive the goods, send me a reply or visit the web site to submit your email address.

Conversely, please send me a message if you do not wish to be informed and I shall remove you…no sweat.

If you visit the Photo Gallery, there is a new album with pictures from the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California from April 2006. A lot of them All hail the lioncame out nice, but some I’ve had to really work with. Please be kind to me because I’m trying to learn to take more professional pictures with digital cameras. I’m going to work on that…really, I am! But if you have free advice, I’m willing to listen. Overall, though, I think there’s something for everyone. Have a look!

Yes people, I’m just getting started. There’s going to be so much here in the coming weeks and months. Do tell your friends about the new Urban Landscapes site, and I hope to hear/read from you soon.

Best Wishes,
Velanche
