After about a month of juggling with a million different things, you are now up-to-date with all the most recent shows. It’s taken awhile to do, and I hope you have been enjoying the goods.

So now have some more! C’mon, you know you’re hungry for good music. Savor the flavor, and take the music all in. You’ll feel better after the show ends, or at least that’s what I strive for you, the loyal Urban Landscapes listeners.

To start off the show this week, a tip of the hat to yet another talented musician. This one, however, is perhaps far less known to the general public and mostly known more by fellow musicians, as well as the rarest of record collectors and tastemakers. Until last week, I have never heard of Andrew Hill. Yet after spotting his name in several places, the Beyondjazz site among them, I’ve used what limited time I’ve had to poke around. In talking with the jazz host before me,

I was told that even though Andrew Hill was a master at composing, arranging and playing, he’s been largely ignored or unknown to to the public. Alfred Lion, one of the founders of the esteemed Blue Note label, said that Andrew Hill was his last great find. It’s a shame that it takes him passing on for people, including me, to notice the contributions he’s left to the music world. Just like the Funk Brothers from Motown, Hill has had his history relegated to a top talent overshadowed by others. I’m certainly going to find out more about his music, and I hope you do too.
