The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 10.43

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I hope that you’ve had a good two weeks while I took a little break during the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.

So here we are, the last regular edition of the radioshow of 2007. A lot of quality music has been out and about this year, and it’s a privilege to play quite a few of the goods for you.

But soon, the time will come when we take a trip into the wayback machine, musically-speaking. It’s time to share with you the music that I feel best represents the best of the year. It’s The Most Recommended Music of 2007. Part One, focusing on the albums, will be the next broadcast airing live on Thursday December 6th. Part Two, the last show of the year, will highlight the essential singles and EP’s of the year. It’s going to be interesting going through the lists to find those choice picks, and I’m looking forward to sharing the music with you.

As the year ends, a new one is about to begin. With the start of the new year comes time to celebrate ten years of Urban Landscapes. I really do hope that you’ll be able to make it to Los Angeles on Friday January 4th, because that’s the night where we are going to throw it down. It’s going to get a bit crazy. By the end of next week, I hope to have far more info on the lineup.

Meanwhile, enjoy this week’s show and will catch you next time.

Goya Distribution Calls It A Day

Friday, November 30th, 2007

A random visit to the Beyondjazz site had one of its headlines calling out…

Goyamusic is shutting down. Big thanks to the whole Goya family for their past 10 years or so…RIP

A visit to the relatively new online community Coopr8 (so-named by the Bugz in the Attic crew) has a posting on one of its forums with further details…

Last week our good friends & partners Goya Music Distribution ltd filed
for liquidation. Along with Amato Distribution, yet another great vinyl
dance music distributor spanning a decade or more has folded in the
last few weeks due to the ever declining sales of vinyl.Goya Music, formed back in 1997 by Mike Slocombe and Spencer Weekes,
distributed mainly Broken Beat, Future Soul, and House music. The Goya
catalog included labels and releases such as their own People Records
& Main Squeeze imprints, 2000Black, Bitasweet, Twisted funk &
Omniverse, Dubsided, Eskimo Recordings, Oblong/Plank, Ubiquity,V2, BBE,
and hundreds more other music and artists.

We at this point, still in shock by the sudden departure would just
like to offer our condolence & gratitude to Mike, Spence, Nick
& everyone else at Goya in recognition of all the great times &
music we’ve enjoyed together over the last 10 years.

We are gonna miss them & GM Headquarters but as they say …

“Ain’t no good at writing about us - sorry, the past is the past
anyways……and the future ain’t the same so…move on back to the
music..”

Goya music - RIP 1997 - 2007

As one of the stalwarts for ensuring that such unique music reaches worldwide, this is a true loss. But the music community in of itself marches on.

Releases: The Pig - Are You There? (Rush Hour)

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

The Pig - Are You Nuts vinyl artYou can oink all you want, but drop the needle on this record on your next club set and stand back to take cover. This record probably won’t make the floor go oink, but should induce plenty of madness and mayhem nevertheless.

I personally can’t wait to spin this one in a mix; definitely one of the best techno releases out this year, and just calling it techno doesn’t do this piece of wax justice.

Watch out for it, cuz at 500 pressings you want to be quick!

Release date: 29 November 2007
Format: 12″

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

This was posted as a comment by the Sick Trumpet crew, but don’t want anyone to miss out on the info. So without further ado…

Ok, its been a tough one as we had so many entries of such a great quality and as a result could not decided on 1 winner, so we are taking the judges choices and putting them out on 1 digital release…

The winners are
Markus Intalex – Side9000
Phil Asher – Altered Native
Domu – Philta
Jenna G – AK’s Detroit Love Vocal Mix

A big thanks to all who entered, please feel free to keep submitting tracks to us at info@sick-trumpet.co.uk and keep making those beats.

Big Love

The Sick Trumpet Crew

It’s pretty safe to say that you’ll hear some of those remixes soon on the show, so listen up for the goods.

Peace.

New/Upcoming Releases Listing

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve recently created a “New/Upcoming Releases” link on the right side of the show’s site. It’s always challenging for people to try and figure out when good music played on the show will be released, so I’ve decided to take a stab at it. If it aids in getting the word out about the music that people may consider spending their hard-earned money on, then it can only be a good thing.

I will do my best to keep it as updated as possible, as I’ll only have time to update it a few times a month.

Bear in mind that the music that’s listed are those I’ve played on the show, or will play in due time. I’ve listened to them, and posting them on the list will let you know that the music gets a thumbs up from me.

Eventually, I’ll have an archived of releases. Watch for something else that will be new coming very soon, perhaps within days, that will help you further along with making those tough decisions on whether or not a piece of music is worth adding to your music library, or your record bag.

As always, comments and feedback are welcome. Thanks for reading, and stay cool!
