The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 11.03

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

It’s not your imagination that there was a show missing on the week of January 17th; I’ve returned from a conference and was sick a couple of days later. Seems that sickness is going around left and right here stateside, and I wasn’t spared.

But last week I was back with a brand new show. Unfortunately, the recording equipment at the station had a bit of a wiring problem and the end recording was coming out of only one channel.

Not one to leave you hanging for longer than necessary, I’ve re-recorded the show. You won’t hear me on the mic though, so this is the week to let the music do all the talking. I hope you enjoy the selection.

The new web site is coming along nicely, and if all goes well you’ll see the new design sometime in February. I have other surprises in the works, and look forward to sharing them once they bear fruit.

I hope your first month of 2008 has gone swimmingly. Stay tuned….more fresh new music and some guest mixes are part of what’s coming during the next few shows. Stay close, and stay good.

The Essentials: Broke N’ Beat Radio

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Broke N' Beat RadioContinuing on with my essential picks after a bit of an absence, yet another podcast that may be well worth your time to check out is Broke N’ Beat Radio. Hailing from Philadelphia, Argo is the man who runs things.

Unlike Urban Landscapes and many other such shows, it’s all music here. You won’t hear Argo read back the tracks played, and you won’t hear him in fact at all. That’s how he likes it, and that’s how fans of the show seem to like it too.

In addition to spinning his own sets, he’s amassed a fine roster of exclusive guestmixes coming from the likes of Mad Mats (Raw Fusion, Sweden), Domu (Treble-O, UK), Pablo Valentino (Faces Records, France), and Nickodemus (Wonderwheel/Turntables On The Hudson, U.S.) among many others, adding a variety of tastes, styles and music to the mix.

Give the show a try.

Velanche Interviewed For The Clubninetyone Blog

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

As you may know, this month marks the 10th anniversary of the Urban Landscapes Radioshow. As others I know have pointed out, it’s also my birthday this month as well. One of the former DJ’s of KCPR, Cal Poly State University’s radio station, requested to interview me. I was flattered and accepted his request.

After responding to his questions last week, the interview has now been posted on the Clubninetyone blog, a dance music blog fronted by all former KCPR DJ’s (except for yours truly, who’s still there).

Have a read if you wish, and feel free to share. Thanks to Loco for the opportunity; peace.

Give It Up For Rocky Rococo

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

I don’t have a great deal of time at the moment, cuz I am about to head out to see Cloverfield. Yeah, I got sucked up in the hype since the very first teaser hit the screen and the net last summer. I can’t wait!

I’d like to introduce to you a new collaborator to the Urban Landscapes site; he’s Rocky Rococo, a DJ and fellow music fiend from the Bay Area of California. I’ve known him fleetingly since the days of the Acid Jazz mailing list back in the late 90’s, but it’s only been within the last few years that we’ve grown to known each other very well. His knowledge of music is extremely keen, and he’ll be the first to tell you that he has a voracious appetite for music in our special scene. Somehow, he’s able to splurge on vinyl after vinyl, and even go for choice albums and the like.

Having been involved with radio station KFJC, the community station of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, he’s done fill-ins for the weekly show Rucker Park. He has also contributed to XLR8R a few years back.

I’m proud to say that there’s going to be more of Rocky Rococo here, as he’s graciously accepted my invitation to contribute to the Urban Landscapes site. He’ll share with us favorite music of new and old, music news, commentary and more. I feel that his insight will bring a fresh perspective, and add food for thought to this place.

Please extend a welcome to Rocky Rococo. Send him an email and make him feel at home.

No Show This Week

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I’m currently in recovery mode today, so this week’s edition of the show will have to pass. The plan is for the show to resume next week.

I have bunches of great music and several guest mixes on tap, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

I didn’t forget the comprehensive year-end list, and my monthly chart is running late but is coming as well. More content on the show’s blog/site is also on the way.

Have a good weekend!
