What’s Happening, What’s Coming

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Hello, Beautiful People!

It’s been a long minute, and so much has been happening that I’ve been overwhelmed to the hilt. After taking two steps back, I’ll be coming back atcha with things.

The refresh of the show’s web site has had to take a back seat for awhile, but it’s coming back soon. Expect now for the look of the site to change come early summer. They’ll be more info, as well as easier ways to find the info you want. Expect more videos, more audio clips, more reviews, more interviews, and more contributions from the new contributors around the globe. That’s coming up.

You’ll note that I have not posted charts in recent months. This goes along with the crazy/busy stuff life has thrown at me. So coming soon, I’ll have a super-sized chart of music that I’ve been feeling these last few months. Then from June onward, the charts should resume monthly as per usual.

I have two interviews in the can, and a third upcoming. I hope to have one of the interviews online by week’s end; I think you’ll enjoy it. The other one will probably get posted a week later.

Last week’s show was a really good one, and I’m looking forward to having it posted. I hope to accomplish this within a day or two, so watch for it. I’m very pleased with the fresh music coming left and right, proof positive that the quality of the music hasn’t subsided in the least.

Finally, I was persuaded by a local DJ friend to join him and another fellow DJ to take a trip to Los Angeles to see cool cats Nickodemus and Quantic headline a day-long event in the heart of the “Toy” District downtown (read: not safe for walking along at night). Also there was Jeremy Sole, the man who was gracious enough to spin wicked songs at the Urban Landscapes 10th Anniversary Party last January. I’ve also met some new folks, and it was awesome to be reunited with Nicko and the Q man. I will have more info and pictures in a blog posting that I hope to have done by week’s end.

I’ll be back atcha soon, so watch out for the blogs. Peace.

Every year for the past four or so years, KCPR, the college radio station of Cal Poly State University here in San Luis Obispo, California, has had a tradition of encouraging shows all week long to play covers. For the unaware, covers are tunes sung that already been popularized or done, but given a bit of an update by a current artist. It’s essentially the musical equivalent of remakes for films. And just like film remakes, the updated music can either give new life, or will make someone want to cover their ears and hide.

I hope you keep your pair of precious ears uncovered, because Urban Landscapes is once again joining the rest fo the station in presenting to you its annual covers show. A surprising number of these covers are very recent, or are recent finds for, in one case, an upcoming compilation. There are even a couple of cover albums that are also in the mix.

I hope you enjoy the show; back next week.

The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 11.14

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Time to hit you up with some really fresh goodies, including a new Marcos Valle comp and a terrific new full length by the Ipanemas on the stellar Far Out label. Also got remixes from the Latin-tinged Fania label by way of a new comp put together by Mr. Bongo, and a couple of 7″ singles from Futuristica Music. Among the other goodies that should not be outdone, the long-awaited Soul Designer album from French producer Fabrice Lig is coming soon, and I’ll play you a track from the EP that’ll precede it.

The kicker of the week, though, is this week’s guestmix from Domu. So much has been said about him regarding his productions under his various guises (Sonar Circle and Umod among them), and his TrebleO label has been making waves since its launch not long ago. Given that he has a busy DJ and production schedule, as well as doing some on-air business for BBC’s Radio 1 Xtra, he’s found time to concoct mixes to coincide with the release of Here Comes Treble, TrebleO’s first compilation that should be out in both CD and digital formats by the time you read this. The mix is an exclusive to the show.

Time to move on; back atcha next week.
