The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 12.03 with Gerry O’Rourke Guestmix

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I never, ever know how the feel and the vibe of the show will be. I can assure you that this week, it’s going to be just a little different. Really, though, it’s all good, both in the music and the vibe.

Anchoring that vibe will be the first Urban Landscapes Guestmix of 2009, coming once again from Foundation Music founder Gerry O’Rourke. His guest mixes have been featured on the show during the last few years. This time, he’s put together a deep and cosmic mix that’s only best expressed by listening. If you are an open-minded music lover like I know most of you are, then you’re in for a treat.

Speaking of treats, there are some great new albums as part of this week’s show, including the new full-length from Alice Russell, and a really beautiful album from L.A.-based songstress Gaby Hernandez that has Carlos Nino’s signature written all over it (alongside partner-in-crime Andres Renteria). Of course, there are other very cool tracks that are collectively part of the show…yes, indeed.

Enjoy, and I’ll catch you again next week. Peace.

The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 12.02

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

The first show of new music for 2009 has finally arrived. At the same time, it’s good to take just a peek of some of the late 2008 releases here and there. But make no mistake that it’s time to venture into the collection that has been piling up since early December. And even today, there’s music in the stacks yet to be checked. If it’s good, rest assured that it’s coming. Otherwise, not much else; as usual, it’s best for the music to speak for itself.

And with that, I give you this week’s playlist. Enjoy the music and the show, and I’ll be back atcha next week with the first Urban Landscapes Guestmix of 2009. Peace.

The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 12.01 – The Most Recommended Singles & EP’s of 2008

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Happy New Year to you, and welcome to 2009!

While most of the United States has been going through its usual seasonal plight of winter cold and mounds of snow, California has been experiencing warmth. As I type this, it’s a little on the chilly side; yet hours earlier, I was in shorts. It was 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and really I don’t think anyone in California is complaining much about the weather. Indeed, we are very fortunate.

On to the music: it’s time to get 2008 out of the way, as Part Two of the Most Recommended Music of 2008 features the singles & EP’s. To be clear, what’s on this week’s playlist is just a sampling of the good stuff. There’s only so much that can fit into the space of two hours, but overall I’m satisfied with the picks for the show. Lest you think that the playlist is the list, there’s more where that came from. Watch soon for a complete list of albums, singles & EP’s, compilations of music from 2008. I hope to have the goods posted by month’s end.

The next show represents the first show of brand new music for 2009. This show, though, marks Urban Landscapes’s 12th year of jazzy, soulful club culture. Keep in touch, because there’s more new music, more guest mixes, and just plain more stuff coming your way.

Enjoy the show, and watch this space!
