The Urban Landscapes Radioshow 12.40 – Domu Tribute Special
Saturday, November 21st, 2009As I type this, it’s getting closer to the one week mark since Dominic Stanton announced on his blog his retirement from the world of music as a producer and a DJ.
In the special music scene that this show supports, it sent shockwaves around the Internet and throughout the globe. Twitter, Facebook and Myspace were abusing over the news. While it was far from being, say, a Twitter top topic, it was certainly the topic of those whose respect for him runs deep.
Like other pioneering artists in this scene, the man who would later be known as Domu was able to adapt to a new and creative music scene when the UK drum and bass movement started dying down. New classifications of music such as nu-jazz, broken beat, and future soul were being coined for some of the most adventurous and freshest music that the rest of the world haven’t caught onto.
Domu was a most definitive influence on the scene, as many artists past and present played on the radio show over the years will attest. As you’ll hear, he was able to adapt to different genres of music, yet making whatever he chooses to create his own. There’s a soulful warmth to his music that makes much of American-based soul creatively stale and stagnant in comparison.
On this edition of the show, you’ll get a very, very small sample of Domu’s incredible output of music over the 15 years he’s been involved; different styles, and sometimes under different names. To try and represent him properly would take maybe days to do over 24-hour periods, but hopefully these two hours will suffice.
I will have more to say about Domu in the coming days via a blog entry, so look out for that.
The show will take next week off in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the states. The following week will have the last regular show before the two-part broadcast known as The Most Recommended Music of 2009 airs to round out the year. More details are coming.
I hope that you enjoy this special tribute to Domu. Stay good, and I will catch you soon.
Peace.
