There’s a terrific jazz musician whom I’ve first heard on Raggy’s Off Limits show. Her name is Nanette Natal, and she’s from New York. Her voice and words are forces of nature, and her tunes quite timely. I hope to have her CD that she plans to send along to me so that I can play music from her most recent album on my show soon.
Meanwhile, check out her recent video to “Colors.” Enjoy, and thanks to Nanette for letting me know about it.
Nina Miranda (of Smoke City fame) and Chris Franck (from Da Lata) are Zeep, and they’ve made a splash with a fun debut album this past summer for the UK-based label Far Out Recordings.
You can watch Zeep’s new video to the first album single “Super” below. Big ups to the folks at Far Out for passing the word along. Fun, psychedelic, colorful and full of life, have at it and have fun!

Today is the first time that I’ve attempted to embed a video, and oy…I’m getting some funny stuff while attempting to post both videos in the same post. I’m sure there’s a way to make that happen, and I’ll deal with it later.
Andreas Saag, aka Swell Sessions, is one of the extremely talented young musicians out of Gothenberg, Sweden. He’s part of a tight-knit group of friends who have established the “Gonky” sound (Gonky = “good” and “funky”)…from Gonkyburg, indeed!
He’s perhaps the best-known of the group, having amassed a body of original works and remixes that have earned him kudos the world over.
After many years in wait, a proper Swell Session album has been released back in September. Called Swell Communications, the album has been four years in the making. The follow-up to his album under the guise of Stateless, it’s collaborations galore here. From locals such as Elsa Esmerelda and Ernesto to renowed global talent such as Domu, Landslide and Sleepwalker, the album showcases the full Swell Session vibe.
In tandem with the album’s release comes a behind-the-scenes video “The Making of Swell Communications,” broken into two parts. Below is Part One. So have a view, and enjoy!
A few months ago, Gert Keunen, aka Briskey, alerted me to a video of his collaborative live project known as the Briskey Big Band, following up on the release of said album. It wasn’t long afterwards that I’ve watched it, and I gotta say that it was quite the video. I thought it would be relatively short, but it ended up being practically a full-on concert (without the long waits in between).
Since then, I been meaning to post about the video because I thought that more people would have the opportunity to enjoy it. I’ve slacked off a bit, but now it’s happening here.
I asked Briskey himself to share a few words, and these are his…
Briskey is my musical alter ego and a way to put out my personal musical creativity.
The combination of electronics and live instruments with some jazz flavour was always the starting point.
Since 2002 I released two albums, 4 maxi’s and set up a 6-people live band with which we played at all mayor venues in Belgium and festivals in Holland, Italy and France.
As I’m sampling lots of old big band brass, I got the crazy idea to set up a real big band myself. Luckely some important stage in Belgium liked the idea, so this could be realised.
In the future I will still do some big band gigs, besides writing new material for the ‘normal’ briskey and - hopefully - write a soundtrack for a film…
There you have it. The video was recorded live at the AB in Brussels, Belgium. Watch it and enjoy! And big ups to Briskey for his words and his blessings for me to pass it forward.
